Business delegation from 11th – 15th November 2019 for German companies and manufacturers of environmental technologies with focus on air pollution combat, control and air purification systems

Air pollution in India In 2016, India's 1.3 billion inhabitants produced 2.4 gigatons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to 6.3% of the worlds’ annual emissions. India is thus the third largest emitter. According to the country's commitment within the framework of the Paris climate agreement, this volume is to be reduced by 33-35% by 2030. The biggest cause of air pollution in the cities are industrie, fossil-fuel power plants - and traffic: the dust whirling up on the roads endangers health and impairs visibility for all road users. The concentration of pollutants in the air, such as PM10 fine dust or PM2.5 fine dust, at times exceed the WHO maximums. The inhabitants of particularly polluted cities, such as the megacity New-Delhi, have to rely on breathing masks during periods of high dust concentration. The situation becomes particularly hazardous in winter when the fine dust particles are settle near the ground due to sinking temperatures and missing winds. Additionally in rural areas, the burning of biomass in the fields and the use of wood and charcoal in private households are main drivers of air pollution.

In road transport, revised emission standards for motor vehicles and fuel quality apply. In addition, the biofuels ethanol & biodiesel have been introduced together with traffic management systems. Temporary measures include driving bans for passenger and freight traffic, the shutdown of coal-fired power plants or a halt to construction work. The industry is obliged to measure air pollution and to submit an annual environmental statement of particularly polluting industries. Environmental aspects are now also taken into account when industries are established. Industries that are particularly harmful to the environment, such as brick factories, are now using new technologies and are obliged to use slag in the vicinity of coal-fired power plants. The mandatory use of electrostatic precipitators (EGR, ESP) applies in order to reduce fine dust emissions in power plants. Electrostati precipitators are also used in smelting and cement production. In addition, some power plants in Maharashtra and Karnataka are already using flue gas cleaning processes to combat sulphur dioxide emissions. Measuring stations have so far been installed in 16 cities to measure air quality in real time.

More than two thirds of all Indian coal-fired power plants have to convert due to new standards for sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. This will create a market for equipment and materials for nitrogen oxide measurements (sensors), reduction of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases (SCR), electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), smoke desulfurization plants (FGD) and fabric filters. Filter systems are also needed in industry to reduce pollutant emissions. Green areas in the city are to be created to filter pollutants out of the air. Concepts in the course of India's ambitious plans to promote electric mobility (30% electric cars by 2030) could reduce the pollution caused by traffic fumes; innovative solutions for road cleaning and against the whirling up of dust could provide discharge, especially in cities.

The participation is open for 8 to maximum 12 German companies. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have priority over multinational enterprises. Registrations are only valid once the form has been completed and sent. Registration deadline is 09th August 2019. This business trip is part of the foreign market entry program for Environmental Technologies of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The participants' participation fee is depending on the size of the company:

-500 € net for participants with less than 2 Mio. Euro annual turnover and less than 10 employees

-750 € net for participants with less than 50 million Euro annual turnover and less than 500 employees

-1,000 € net for participants with an annual turnover of 50 million euros or more or more than 500 employees

The participants will have to bear their own individual travel, accommodation and catering costs.
