From October 26-28, 2018, Punekars got together to beer and cheer, at the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce’s (IGCC) 12th edition of the Pune Oktoberfest. As always, it was the most anticipated, awaited and authentic Oktoberfest. This was evident from the huge turnout, at the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC), Pune.
Rahul Oza, Partner, Roedl and Partner; Kanwal Deep Singh, CEO, Mubea Automotive Components India Pvt. Ltd.; and Peter Deubet, Deputy Director General, IGCC; tapped the first beer keg, in celebration of the Pune Oktoberfest. With the exclamation, “O’zapft is!” (“It’s Tapped!”), the Pune Oktoberfest was declared open.
With beer games, photo opportunities, thrilling horse races on the weekend, Pune Oktoberfest was buzzing with excitement and fun. This year, the beer was brewed by Doolally, Kimaya and Effingut and many litres of Märzen, Weizen, Radler, along with Erdinger from Bavaria, were happily enjoyed by the visitors. To complement the beer, our catering partner, Innvenue, offered German delicacies like Krakauer, Bratwurst and Currywurst, traditionally served with Sauerkraut, as well as a selection of Indian food and pizza.
‘Die Kirchdorfer’, the original Oktoberfest band from Munich, set the stage on fire, with a selection of German Oktoberfest classics and rock anthems. Having experienced over a decade of this authentic German celebration, it was no surprise that Punekars could sing along to the lyrics of ‘Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit’ and it was great to see them ‘schunkelten’ (sway) to the tunes, with beer steins in their hands!
Making the party as German as it could get, this year saw many more visitors dressed up in dirndls and lederhosens, as they mingled and interacted over pints of beer.
Just like last year, Trinity Motors (Mercedes-Benz dealer) in Kalyani Nagar, hosted 100 exclusive invitees at the Pune Wasen – The Pune Oktoberfest VIP Brunch, on Sunday afternoon, October 28, 2018. The who’s who of Pune, including high-profile representatives of German and Indian firms, were present at the event, meeting and networking through the afternoon, with Dr. Juergen Morhard, German Consul General in Mumbai and Bernhard Bernhard Steinrücke, Director General, IGCC, leading the way.
All in all, IGCC’s Pune Oktoberfest has become a popular celebration in the city, featuring German beer and food, with an attempt to recreate the Bavarian sense of gemuetlichkeit - cordiality!
