Since 1977, the European Patent System provides efficient Instruments for that purpose, both securing European market and providing the basis for extension into foreign markets. In 2023, the European Patent System was enhanced by the Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court, providing for the possibilities to cheaply maintain protection and efficiently litigate patents.
