The Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises https://www.berlin.de/sen/web/en/ has therefore decided to build up a Business Office in India. The Berlin Business Office India (BBOI) is hosted by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC).
The aim of the BBOI is to strengthen and broaden the business contacts between Berlin and India.
The Berlin Business Office India (BBOI) presents and promotes the tech ecosystem of Germany’s capital in India. It works to deepen economic relations between India and Berlin by helping Indian companies do business in Berlin and Berlin companies enter or expand in India.

Job Summary
As the Chief Representative of the Berlin Business Office India, you will be the senior spokesperson and key driver for promoting Berlin as a premier business and innovation destination.
You will establish and manage the Berlin Business Office India with overall responsibility for content and organization for Bangalore and India, including representing the state of Berlin vis-à-vis third parties.
You will implement and execute activities to attract Indian investments and talents and foster bilateral business relationships. This leadership role demands a strategic vision, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and a deep understanding of both the Indian and German/Berlin economic landscapes. You will be responsible for the overall operations and success of the Berlin Business Office India.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Representation:
- Serve as the senior representative and face of the Berlin Business Office India.
- Develop and implement an annual strategic plan for the Indian market, aligned with Berlin objectives, to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and promote trade.
- Represent Berlin at high-level meetings, industry forums, trade fairs, and policy dialogues to enhance Berlin’s visibility and strategic positioning.
Market Intelligence & Business Development:
- Continuously observe and analyse economic developments, sectoral trends, and investment flows within India, with particular attention to companies planning expansion or acquisitions in Western Europe.
- Proactively identify and engage Indian companies, startups, and investors with a potential interest in establishing a presence in Berlin or forming partnerships with Berlin-based companies.
- Initiate and lead tailored business development activities to convert interest into concrete investment projects.
Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management:
- Identify and attract Indian talent for Berlin.
- Support Berlin-based companies and stakeholders in finding and recruiting talent in India.
- Establish, nurture, and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Indian corporate houses, industry associations (e.g., CII, FICCI, NASSCOM), chambers of commerce, government bodies, and diplomatic missions.
- Manage and expand a network of relevant contacts in the Indian business and institutional landscape.
Service Delivery & Project Management
- Act as the primary contact for Indian companies seeking information on Berlin as a business location, including its ecosystem, investment conditions, incentives, and partnership opportunities.

- Develop and maintain a dedicated database containing contact details of business and political representatives for targeted outreach.
- Plan, coordinate, and represent Berlin at promotional events, seminars, and trade fairs in India.
- Organize and facilitate delegation visits to India for Berlin, including site visits and meetings with key local contacts (e.g., economic development agencies, network partners, potential clients).
- Prepare and submit a comprehensive written activity report.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- A Master’s degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Economics or a related field.
- Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in international business development, strategic marketing, FDI attraction, or a similar leadership role.
- Extensive, established network within Indian industry and business institutions. Previous experience working with or in German/European economic development organizations is highly advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of both the Indian and German (particularly Berlin’s) business, innovation, and investment ecosystems.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and a proven track record of achieving growth targets and managing a representative office or similar entity.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and presentation skills in English, fluent in German.
- Ability to work autonomously, lead initiatives, and collaborate effectively within a multicultural, international context.

About the Role
The Regional Director – Kolkata holds overall responsibility for the strategic, operational, financial, and personnel management of IGCC’s regional activities in Eastern India. This role is based in Kolkata and is pivotal in strengthening Indo-German economic cooperation, expanding IGCC’s regional footprint, and delivering value-driven membership and service offerings aligned with IGCC’s national strategy.
The Regional Director acts as a senior representative of IGCC in the region and serves as a key interface between members, stakeholders, government institutions, and the IGCC headquarters in Mumbai. This role reports to the Director General.
Key responsibilities include
Strategic Leadership & Regional Development
- Define and implement the regional strategy and annual targets in alignment with IGCC’s overall organizational objectives.
- Position IGCC as a leading facilitator of Indo-German business relations in Eastern India.
- Act as a bridge-builder between India and Germany by cultivating strong, long-term relationships with relevant stakeholders.
- Represent IGCC with state government bodies, administrative authorities, chambers, industry associations, and multipliers to improve ease of doing business and bilateral cooperation.
Membership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Establish, maintain, and deepen relationships with IGCC members, identifying regional needs and developing tailored engagement opportunities.
- Organize and oversee regional networking events, seminars, trainings, and member-focused initiatives.
- Introduce and coordinate Industrial Working Groups at a national level and Functional Workshops at a regional level (e.g., HR, Legal, Finance & Tax, Sustainability, Diversity initiatives).
- Foster close cooperation with the German Embassy and Consulate, including economic and consular departments.
Services & Business Development
- Drive the acquisition of new advisory projects, corporate services, and innovative product lines aligned with IGCC’s business license and financial capabilities.
- Ensure the successful planning, execution, and monitoring of service projects, including delegation visits and special initiatives.
- Promote collaboration with other IGCC regions and support cross-regional projects.
Financial Management & Governance
- Hold overall financial responsibility for Membership and Services activities in Kolkata in line with agreed annual targets.
- Jointly set and manage the regional budget with the Director Finance Department and the Director General.
- Review monthly and quarterly financial results, define corrective strategies where required, and ensure accurate financial documentation.
- Ensure strict adherence to governance standards, transparency, and the four-eyes principle in all financial matters.
People Management & Organizational Leadership
- Lead, develop, and motivate regional teams across Membership and Services functions in close coordination with the Director General and HR.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and professional development of permanent, temporary, and intern staff.
- Act as a role model for teamwork, accountability, and professional conduct.
- Organize regular staff meetings to promote transparency, collaboration, and exchange of best practices.
Operations, Processes & Data Management
- Oversee the effective functioning of the Regional Office, ensuring operational excellence and compliance with IGCC policies and handbooks.
- Ensure accurate maintenance and continuous enhancement of member and customer data within IGCC’s centralized CRM system.
- Establish guidelines, checklists, and process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency of regional operations.
Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within a bilateral chamber, membership-based organization, corporate services environment, or public-private partnership.
- Proven leadership experience with financial, operational, and people management responsibility.
- Strong understanding of Indo-German economic relations and international business environments. German language skills are a plus.
- Active involvement in relevant professional and industry networks.
