The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in cooperation with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) SustainMarkets invites you to the “Webinar on the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act: Potential Impact and Application for Indian Businesses” on Monday, 5 February 2024 from 4:00PM to 5:00PM IST. The event takes a look at the regulatory requirements of supply chain due diligence in Germany and the EU and the business opportunities for Indian businesses.
The year 2024 is an important year for businesses as it marks several mandatory responsible business regulations that are required as it is the start of the implementation period for two major mandatory due diligence frameworks in India and Germany.
In Germany, from 1 January 2024, the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz - LkSG) has expanded its scope to German companies with at least 1,000 employees worldwide. The Law requires companies to put in place management processes to ensure the protection of human rights and the environment that covers their operations as well as their supply chain.
In India, the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) has been strengthened with BRSR Core as it targets greater transparency on ESG disclosures for the top 1,000 listed companies.
At the same time, the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) is being discussed and is on track to be adopted into law in 2024. Thus, putting even greater importance on companies to put in place a robust due diligence process.
Impact on Indian Businesses
In today's interconnected world, Indian businesses collaborating with partners in Germany, or the EU are increasingly finding themselves needing to ensure sustainable and responsible practices throughout their supply chains. This has led to a growing demand for robust due diligence processes, which forward-thinking companies are leveraging to gain a competitive edge in the evolving market.
The rise of due diligence as an essential business practice presents a unique opportunity for Indian companies with European partnerships: meeting compliance requirements can be the catalyst to capitalise on changing market dynamics and unlock new business possibilities.
Objectives of the Event
The event will serve as an informational session on the regulatory compliance of supply chain due diligence in Germany and the EU. In addition, the event will also seek to identify business opportunities for Indian companies by proactively implementing robust due diligence measures.
