Water management prevails to be a tremendous challenge in India across all sectors and industries! India’s water demand is expected to be twice the available supply of water by 2030.

The industrial demand for water will rise by 81% annually until the year 2025. At present, industrial plants in India consume about three times more water per production unit compared to similar plants operating in other countries. At the same time, the Indian government is aiming for industrial growth rates of 12% to 14% creating 100 million jobs. Fast economic acceleration needs to be balanced with its risks in terms of impacts on biodiversity, waste production, soils, groundwater, resource use and social conflict.

At least 38,000 million litres of untreated wastewater are discharged into Indian rivers every day. Industrial wastewater is often contaminated with highly toxic substances, causing massive environmental damage, and threaten the local water supply.

In this dynamic environment, a key challenge remains to achieve economic growth that benefits all citizens while ensuring the protection of our natural resource water for current and future generations.

SustainAwards 2022 – Industrial Water Management

IGCC Sustain Markets is expanding its effort to promote responsible business practises in industrial water management with its 2022 edition of its Sustain Awards and brings its Awards to India! The Award seeks to highlight innovative solutions of businesses, share best practices in the Indo-German Business Community, and raise awareness about the relevance of water conservation and the sustainable usage of the resource water in industrial processes.

Companies and Industrial Parks of all sizes operating in the Ganga Region of Bihar, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

Environmental Efficiency, Volume and Cost-saving, Employment Generation

3.Environmental Quality
Water Supply and Water use, Water Collection/Conservation Wastewater Management and Treatment

4. Social Impact
Health and Safety, Grievance Mechanism, Inclusive and Skilled Manpower

5.Infrastructure Quality
Environmental Infrastructure, Building design, Resource efficiency and Clean Production

Process

Applications will be assessed along 5 criteria and three winners per category will be selected by a 5-member panel of independent judges. The application process is separated in a PRE-Assessment phase and a FINAL round ensuring an effortless application process. Upon completion of the PRE-assessment form, you will be contacted to provide details and proof according to our 5 criteria: Management Quality, Economic Quality, Environmental Quality, Social Impact, Infrastructure Quality.
