To support inclusive and sustainable economic development in India,Indo-German Chamber of Commerce in partnership with CBM India organises a webinar to highlight how companies, society, and country can benefit from a greater inclusive approach for people with disabilities and find solutions to work together toward supporting India’s Inclusive Development Agenda.
There are more than 1 billion people with disabilities in the World. In India, persons with disabilities make up around 2.21% of the country’s population. Persons with disabilities are among the most vulnerable group of the society as they face economic and social barriers which prevent them from fully participating in society.
In many countries, including India, numerous people with disabilities still experience discriminatory behaviour and stigmatisation as they are often erroneously associated with dependence and helplessness. These iniquitous practices create a situation where people with disabilities lack adequate social protection, are more prone to fall below the poverty line, and more than five times less likely to find employment than a person without any disability.
Despite the challenges they face, people with disabilities possess tremendous potential to contribute toward the economy and society. In recent report, hiring people with disabilities not only improves the profitability of a company but also promotes positive work culture, increases employee satisfaction, loyalty, productivity, and fosters a sense of community in the workplace. At the same time, economies that embrace people with disabilities on equitable standing are more likely to flourish in the long-run. The current health crisis further highlights the importance of safeguarding the health, well-being, and rights of persons with disabilities.
The webinar will highlight how companies, society, and country can benefit from a greater inclusive approach for people with disabilities and find solutions to work together toward supporting India’s Inclusive Development Goals.
The webinar will launch IGCC’s Inclusion Initiative in partnership with CBM India and implemented within the framework of a Project in cooperation with Business Scouts for Business Development which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
