Few things unite people quite like the thrill of sports. The inaugural season of the Indo-German Cricket League (IGCL), organized by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and Rödl & Partner, exemplified this spirit beautifully.
Held on May 31st and June 1st, 2024, this event saw participants from 16 member companies come together despite the sweltering 40-degree Indian summer heat, driven by their passion, team spirit, inclusivity, and diversity by including at least 2 female team members.

Day one of the tournament kicked off with all 16 member companies competing fiercely in two matches each. The event was graced by the presence of former Indian international cricketer and legendary wicket-keeper, Nayan Mongia. Mr. Mongia, along with Rahul Oza, Partner/ Director / Head of Practice - West and South India; inaugurated the tournament with a cutting ceremony. Mr. Mongia also presented the Man of the Match awards, recognizing outstanding performances. The first day was filled with dominant victories and nail-biting finishes, setting the stage for an exciting second day.
Day two saw the teams once again going head-to-head to determine the four semifinalists. Bericap India Pvt. Ltd., WIKA Instruments India Pvt. Ltd., Rödl & Partner, and Brose India emerged as the top contenders, with Bericap India Pvt. Ltd and Rödl & Partner ultimately faced off in the final. The final match was a thrilling contest, with Rödl & Partner emerging as the champions of the first season of IGCL 2024.
In addition to the main tournament, the event featured a friendly match involving top leaders from our partner companies. Their participation not only showcased their sportsmanship but also served as an inspiration to their teams.
Following the final match, the presentation ceremony was held. Stefan Halusa, Director General, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Oza shared their experiences and congratulated all the participants. The Man of the Match awards for day two were presented, and the runners-up trophy was awarded to Bericap by Ute Brockmann, Deputy Director General & Head of DEinternational Services and Anand Khetan, Partner, Deputy Head of Practice-West and South India from Rödl. The winners' trophy was proudly handed to the Rödl & Partner team by Mr. Halusa and Mr. Oza.
Kalpesh Saraf, Western Regional Director of IGCC delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the partnering and participating companies for their enthusiastic support and sporting spirit. The first season of IGCL concluded with a grand gala dinner and networking session, providing a perfect end to an unforgettable event.
The IGCL not only brought together companies from diverse sectors but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and teamwork. This event demonstrated the power of sports to transcend professional boundaries and create lasting memories. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the inaugural IGCL.
