IGCC and IFCCI Presented a White Paper to Shri Subhash Desai, Honourable Minister for Industries & Mining of Maharashtra, Government of Maharashtra.

Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) in partnership with Indo French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) presented a white paper titled “Challenges faced by French and German companies in Maharashtra caused by Nationwide Covid-19 Lockdown” to Shri Subhash Desai, Honourable Minister for Industries & Mining of Maharashtra, Government of Maharashtra (GoM), during a live interaction on 2nd June 2020.

Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) in partnership with Indo French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) presented a white paper titled “Challenges faced by French and German companies in Maharashtra caused by Nationwide Covid-19 Lockdown” to Shri Subhash Desai, Honourable Minister for Industries & Mining of Maharashtra, Government of Maharashtra (GoM), during a live interaction on 2nd June 2020.

Mr Sumeet Anand, President, IFCCI welcomed the honourable minister. Ms Sonia Barbry and Dr Juergen Morhard, consul generals of France and Germany in Mumbai, respectively, supported the joint initiative of both Chambers highlighting the strong presence of German and French companies in Maharashtra. Dr Morhard stated the white paper is an “important milestone”. Both consul generals expressed their commitment to facilitating the implementation of the White Paper recommendations with the Maharashtra government. Ms Payal S. Kanwar, Director General, IFCCI, and Mr Bernhard Steinrücke, Director General, IGCC, closed the session with a vote of thanks.

Minister Desai welcomed the White Paper as another positive step to reinforce the “cordial relation” GoM share with German and French industries in the state. During his speech, Minister Desai also highlighted government efforts are already underway to expedite the safe opening of industries through its “Mission Begin Again” initiative.

During the live session, an executive committee of 12 German and French companies including Siemens, ThyssenKrupp, L'Oréal and Ador Powertron raised their concerns and presented their recommendations for the revised regulations to the GoM.

The White Paper is a joint initiative of the IGCC and the IFCCI with consulting firm Rödl & Partner. It comprises of financial, commercial, and labour related conditions and challenges faced by French and German companies operating in Maharashtra to develop specific solutions to help smoothen business operations in Maharashtra.
