India Launches Climate Equity Monitor

12/01/2022

On 31 October 2021, the Indian government launched the Climate Equity Monitor - an online dashboard to understand equity in climate action, inequalities in emissions, as well as energy and resource consumption across the world. The website has been conceptualised and developed by independent researchers from India.

The Climate Equity Monitor is aimed at monitoring the emission performance and trajectory of developed countries listed in Annex 1 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).The online dashboard also provides the performance, trajectory, and policies of the Non-Annex I Parties (developing countries) for comparison.

The website highlights the disparity between the emissions of developed and developing countries. While India is the third-largest emitter of carbon emissions annually, the country is the sixth-largest in historical emissions and among the lowest per capita emitters. The Climate Equity Monitor will also undergo constant upgradation with additional new material, including the addition of new areas such as climate finance, technology transfer and adaptation.
