Liv Assmann (50) will be taking over the duties of Plenipotentiary of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to the Federal Government, the European Union and Foreign Affairs. She is taking the place of Almut Möller, who has given up office for personal reasons. Assmann was appointed by Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) as his successor on Tuesday, 28th April. Mayor Dr. Tschentscher thanked Almut Möller for her work for her work as State Councillor in the recent years and her contributions to strengthening Hamburg's international relations as well as establishing new partnerships such as those with the port city of Nantes in France.
As stated by Tschentscher, Liv Assmann has headed the Hamburg State Representation in Berlin since 15 September 2023, and is well-networked there. Previously, she worked as Head of Division at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and worked for several years in the representation of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate to the Federal Government. Tschentscher further explained that owing to her professional experience in European and security policy and personal competence, she is ideally suited to take on the tasks of the Plenipotentiary of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
Liv Assmann's appointment as the new Plenipotentiary of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to the Federal Government, the European Union, and Foreign Affairs marks a significant transition in Hamburg's diplomatic landscape and Mayor Peter Tschentscher's confidence in her abilities underscores her suitability for the position. As Hamburg continues to forge international partnerships and navigate global challenges, Assmann's leadership promises to further strengthen the city's standing on the international stage.
