Shaping a Sustainable Future: Indo-German Business Forum 2023

In honour of the visit of Dr. Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Indo German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) organised an Indo-German Business Forum (IGBF): “Inviting Innovation: Transforming the economy for a shared sustainable future" on Thursday, 20th July 2023 at New Delhi.

The forum aimed to foster cooperation between India and Germany in achieving the green and digital transformation of the economies, promoting sustainable economic growth and addressing the challenges of climate change.
 
Stefan Halusa, Director General, IGCC and Anupam Chaturvedi, President, IGCC, and Chief Representative, DZ Bank in India greeted the distinguished guests Dr. Habeck and Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Dr. Habeck in his address said that Germany and India want to strengthen economic cooperation, including creating a “common trade sphere”. Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, highlighted the immense potential of India's young population and mentioned the opportunity India's growing middle class presents as a strong consumer market for the German industry.
 
The IGBF featured three engaging and insightful panels that focused on key aspects of sustainable economic growth and innovation.
 
Panel I: Transforming the Economy for a Sustainable Future
The private sector's foreign direct investment (FDI) activities and how they contribute to sustainable economic growth were highlighted.

Panel II: Decarbonisation of Supply Chains
This comprised of a fireside chat with the State Secretary Wenzel which was followed by a panel featuring leading companies from India and Germany that are committed to decarbonization and energy efficiency.

Panel III: Innovation and Digitalization
Examined the success stories of German manufacturing excellence and Indian IT skills leading to innovation in the field of digitalization, the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital world, the role of the Indian talent pool and the future of work.

The IGBF served as a platform to promote fruitful collaborations, networking, drive sustainable economic growth, and pave the way for a shared, sustainable future for Indo-German cooperation.
