The German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz (LkSG) is set to be enforced on 1 January 2023 for companies with over 3000 employees and will be applicable for companies with over 1000 employees on 1 January 2024. The Act will require mandatory compliance on human rights due diligence for companies headquartered in Germany as well as potentially affect German companies’ subsidiaries and suppliers in India as well as Indian companies having business concerns in India.
The LkSG will have a direct impact on German companies and their subsidiaries in India. At the same time, Indian businesses with business concerns in Germany will likely be indirectly impacted by the Act as buyers may require their suppliers to share the supply chain due diligence responsibility. To support German and Indian SMEs and MNCs in India, the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with amfori will be delivering hybrid training for the Automotive supply chain to provide companies with practical knowledge and capacity-building skills to prepare for the incoming regulations.
